18 Jun 2021 - Tests in Edmonton

Went to Edmonton this week for a biopsy on an area on/near my thyroid  that "illuminated" on my PET/SCAN from a few ago. I'm no expert but the PET/CT scan will illuminate areas of high metabolic activity. These areas can be normally functioning areas such as muscle repair or infection being fought or could be a potential Cancer spot.

Good news up front.. the biopsy results did not indicate any cancer cells by my thyroid. The procedure was quite painful for me despite getting a local anesthetic. It didn't hurt like a needle put rather felt more like a solid pinch deep in my neck. Richelle was allowed to watch and was fascinated as the Dr used a ultrasound to locate the "node" and to then guide the biopsy needle to it. The Dr. got one sample and it was negative for cancer however he asked if okay to get a second as the first wasn't as plentiful as he had hoped. I agreed since the momentary pain and discomfort was well worth the knowledge of what may or may not exist there.

Returned to Cold Lake and the next morning had a "Zoom" meeting/consult with Speech & Swallowing specialist to go over some pre-op exercises to help recovery and adapt to the physiological changes with surgery. Again I'm pleased with the support of the medical professionals and how they are eager to answer any questions and provide great advice and recommendations.

I must note also that is greatly appreciated all the words of support, strength and love received! I'm overwhelmed and blessed to have such fantastic people in my life near and far! I still feel physically not too bad other than my neck from the biopsy yesterday is still a bit stiff and painful like someone karate chopped my neck.  More consults and appointments coming up to prepare for surgery and treatments.

Thanks for reading and Take Care Everyone! Love y'all!
